Alright. So it’s a definite yes for surgery. My wonderful PT Amy was able to show me exactly how the ligament is torn…which also made me realize the severity of the situation. It’s an anterior labral tear. The labrum is sheath that attaches to the inside of the shoulder socket (the cupped part, not the head of the humerus) like a blanket. It’s like the suction lining around the door of a refrigerator. When my shoulder dislocated, part of that was torn away from the bone, and it needs a little help to be able to re-attach. Once that little guy is tacked back in, it needs about six weeks of passive activity to allow it to heal. Basically, my new goal is to become ambidextrous before September. Being without a right arm/hand for 6 weeks should be interesting…I’m looking forward to seeing how BodyTalk and Franklin Method will speed my recovery!
Surgery is a strange thing, especially when you have the “luxury” of knowing in advance all that you are getting yourself into. One moment you have full range of motion in your arm and shoulder…half an hour later you are secured in a sling. I am grateful for the opportunity to prepare for it. Entering in tip-top shape will significantly speed the recovery. The challenge is in wrapping my brain around a completely unexpected change of plans for the fall. If nothing else, having this surgery presents the opportunity to truly acknowledge the progressive studies of BodyTalk and Franklin Method.

Good Luck on surgery, sweetie!
